Hiawatha’s first grade team organized their annual Hand-to-Hand sale. Through this experience, the first graders learn about service to their community, caring for others, delayed gratification, kindness, and finding joy in giving to others.
Throughout December families from within the Hiawatha school community send in gently used items from their homes. These items are then sorted by students. In addition to collecting items for the sale, the first graders also collect food for the Heavenly Pantry.
The day after the Hand-to-Hand sale, the first graders traveled to Hannaford to shop for items needed at the food shelf. Then after shopping, the students delivered all the donations to the Heavenly Pantry and learned about the food shelf.
