Hiawatha 3rd grade students have been working with Mrs. Weston at recess in a group called Earth Rangers. They have explored environmental issues and chosen a couple of projects to complete this year. Last week, they planted some trees. They planted several Norway Spruce seedlings and on Arbor Day, they planted a larger Honey Locust along the school’s exit driveway, next to the running track.
For the Honey Locust planting, they collaborated with Essex Junction Tree Advisory Committee (TAC). The students chose the species and location based on research and support from the TAC and District buildings and grounds staff.
