Principals’ Message

Dear Students and Families:

Essex High School commits to ensuring that graduates are self-directed learners, effective communicators, creative and practical problem-solvers, responsible and involved citizens, and informed thinkers. When students graduate from Essex High School they leave as mathematical thinkers, using a scientific lens to solve problems. Graduates will design solutions and engage their literary and cultural knowledge to effectively communicate and collaborate. Essex High School students are leaders, and advocates for social justice.

The Essex High School Program of Studies offers a wide variety of courses designed not only to meet vigorous graduation requirements, but also to allow students to pursue pathways that best meet their future plans. There are many opportunities for students to optimize their mathematics, write compelling stories, and deliver proficient oral arguments individually and as part of a team.

The courses in the Essex High School Program of Studies are designed to produce self-directed learners, creative and practical problem-solvers, responsible and involved citizens, and informed and integrated thinkers. Students have opportunities to develop critical skills while attending Essex High School regardless of their college or career aspirations.

Students are fortunate to have access to an incredible faculty and staff, who are committed to ensuring every student achieves at a high level. Essex High School has a proven record of success, and a continued commitment to excellence.  Essex High School’s improvement is evidenced through collaborative conversations as a component of Professional Learning Communities.

Making course and program selections is not always easy or clear. Students are encouraged to work closely with the School Counseling department when making course decisions to ensure they meet individual student interests and graduation requirements. Working together with students and families, students will be able to take full advantage of what Essex High School has to offer.

Sincerely,

Donald S. Van Nostrand
