My professional journey has been diverse and dynamic, ranging from supporting government operations to managing large operational teams. This experience has ingrained in me a profound understanding of complex organizational structures, making me adept at program management and business operations. I am skilled in running large teams, where I emphasize efficiency, teamwork, and clear communication. These skills are vital for fostering an environment where school administrators, teachers, and students can thrive.
My diverse work background allows me to approach school board responsibilities with a broad, inclusive perspective, ensuring that all decisions benefit every student and staff member. I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to contribute to the EWSD School Board, aiming to ensure that our schools not only maintain their excellent standards but also continue to innovate and prepare all students for the challenges of the future.
What motivated you to want to become an EWSD Board member?
AS: My motivation to join the EWSD Board stems from a deeply personal commitment to education, fueled by my experiences as a parent. Ensuring that my children receive a robust education has always been a priority for me, recognizing that a solid educational foundation not only enhances knowledge but also fosters diverse experiences and cultural understanding.
Upon relocating to Vermont, the reputation of the local schools was a major factor in choosing our new home. I was particularly drawn to the high standards of educational excellence and the wide range of opportunities available, which I believe are crucial for equipping children to navigate and succeed in today's rapidly changing world.
When I learned of the need for a board candidate in Westford, I saw it as the ideal opportunity to contribute to our community. I am eager to advocate for and help sustain the educational quality that first attracted me to this area. My goal is to ensure that our schools not only maintain their high standards but also continue to innovate and adapt, providing every child with the tailored opportunities they need to excel.
What is the most important responsibility of a school board?
AS: The most important responsibility of the school board is to ensure the delivery of a high-quality, inclusive education that meets the diverse needs of all students. This includes promoting diversity, inclusion, and ethical standards; supporting struggling students; maintaining safe educational environments with mental health resources; managing finances transparently; and fostering community engagement along with teacher and staff support.
