Two FMS fourth graders, Finley and Clara, worked on a math project they entered into a statewide math fair at the University of Vermont. At the fair, 48 Vermont students participated and 32 projects were presented.
For their project, they measured walkable paths to find the shortest route to the library from their classroom. They discovered that while one of the staircases is the quickest path, the shortest path in distance is the elevator.
After the students participated in the fair, they presented their project to their school. In hopes of inspiring other students, and fostering an environment where students could practice math, they proposed starting a Math Team at FMS.
