Angkith Pradhan and Luca Karki were recently named Vermont Presidential Scholars by the State of Vermont Agency of Education. The Vermont Presidential Scholars Program is a statewide recognition of student citizenship, and academic, artistic, and leadership excellence.
Angkith Pradhan is a senior at EHS and in his third year at the Center for Technology, Essex in the Mechanical Engineering Program. He's currently on the EHS Varsity Soccer team and works managing his family's business in Winooski. Angkith moved to Vermont from Nepal with his parents and younger brother when he was 7 years old. He will be graduating high school with two dual enrollment credits at VSU, an AP Computer Science credit, and his SolidWorks 3-D CAD certification for Engineering. He has applied to several prestigious colleges such as MIT, Clarkson, and RIT.
In addition to being an exceptional student, athlete, and family member, he is kind, and driven and has an insatiable curiosity and a sense of optimism. His main goal after completing college is to create positive changes in the world and his community through innovative technology.
Luca Karki is a senior at EHS in his second year at the Center for Technology, Essex. In his junior year, he participated in the Natural Resources: Forestry program, and this year, he is enrolled in the Natural Resources: Mechanical program where he is participating in a year-long Co-Op at Shelburne Farms. He is a very active volunteer including time spent with The Growing Peace Project, the EWSD History board, and involvement with David Zuckerman's campaign where social justice issues like climate change, the environment, and youth activism are very important to him.
Luca will be graduating high school with an impressive 23 college credits! Luca has received Game of Logging levels 1-4 industry-recognized credentials, First Aid/CPR/AED certifications, Stop the Bleed certification, OSHA 10 and OSHA 30, and NCCER Core and Heavy Equipment level 1 with Natural Resources Mechanical. When Luca competed in the state’s Science Olympiad competition, he won a bronze medal in forestry. Luca has applied to many colleges including UVM, UNH, Michigan Tech, Oregon State, Colorado State, Virginia Tech, and Washington State. He plans to study forest management to become a game warden.
