Congrats to EHS senior Max Spaeder for earning a spot on the Vermont team for the Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl! Each year more than 200 graduating seniors from Vermont and New Hampshire are nominated to participate in the Shrine game and only 40 players from each state are selected.

The game will take place on August 3 starting at 11:30 a.m. at Castleton State University where players will play in support of Shriners Children’s Hospital. All money raised goes directly to Shriners Children’s Hospital in Boston, Shriners Children’s Hospital New England in Springfield, Mass., and Shriners Hospitals for Children Canada in Montreal. Each year many children benefit from the services that Shriners Children’s Hospitals offer, including many children from Vermont.

Donations to support the Shriners Children's Hospital can be made online.

Max will also be honored as the representative from Essex High School to the Vermont Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame at a banquet to be held at Castleton on May 5. This banquet, which typically is attended by around 250 family members and football fans from around the state, is the premier high school football honors banquet of the year.
